Terms of use

Last updated: August 24, 2026

These are the terms for Utsushibi (“the app”) and this site. By downloading and using the app you agree to them.

Price and license

The app is free to use, for personal and commercial use alike — no extra permission, no fee, and no credit required.

The app and the files bundled with it remain the author’s work. Please do not redistribute modified builds, host the app outside the official distribution channel, or resell the app itself.

What data is handled

Your camera feed and all tracking results are processed entirely on your Mac. Neither the video, the tracking results nor your avatar data are sent anywhere.

The app makes outbound requests only while a background that shows the real sky is on screen. It uses ipwho.is to estimate your rough area and Open-Meteo for the weather there, and the location also feeds the sun-height calculation that lights the sky. What comes back is used to draw the background and is neither stored nor forwarded.

This site has no forms and no login. Page views are measured with a cookieless analytics beacon only. Neither the app nor the site collects personal information such as your name or email address.

Avatars and assets

Any VRM avatar you load remains subject to the terms set by whoever made it. Whether you may edit it, use it commercially or stream with it differs per model.

What you do with video you stream or record through the app is your own responsibility.

Disclaimer

The app is provided as is, without warranty of fitness for a particular purpose or of uninterrupted, error-free operation.

The author is not liable for damages arising from use of the app. Because the virtual camera runs as a macOS system extension, it is worth confirming that it works before an important meeting.

Changes to these terms

These terms may change without notice. A revised version applies from the moment it is published on this page.
